According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is interested in playing for the Denver Broncos next season. Rapoport says that this is only if the Cowboys decide to trade him.
That is going to be tricky, though, as he has a $24.7 million cap hit in 2017. It would become $19.6 if he’s released or traded.
Romo has three years left on a six-year, $108 million deal. He’ll be rookie sensation Dak Prescott’s backup for the first time this season against the Baltimore Ravens at AT&T Stadium.

He missed the first nine games after suffering a back injury in the preseason at CenturyLink Field against the Seattle Seahawks. On Tuesday, Romo acknowledged that he’s handed the reins to the rookie, even though he didn’t want to do that — he had no choice as he hasn’t played.
It’s impossible that the Cowboys would keep him with his $24.7 million cap hit next season. They’re going to likely try to find something for Romo instead of releasing him.
“[Romo] already has eyes on the Broncos as a possible destination,” Rapoport says.
This wouldn’t be the last time that a player on the downside of his career picked the Broncos. Peyton Manning went to the Denver Broncos after he was released by the Indianapolis Colts — and led the team to the Super Bowl 50 win over the Carolina Panthers with the help of their tough defense.
The Broncos have two young quarterbacks right now. Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is their starter and has started all nine games this season.
He has completed 60.1% of his passes. Siemian has 2,028 yards with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Broncos used their first-round draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft on Paxton Lynch. He’s considered their future quarterback.
Rapoport also insists the Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, and the Buffalo Bills are also in the mix.
