By Anthony Caruso III | Publisher Marty Hurney is back as the Carolina Panthers’ permanent GM. He spent the past several months as their interim GM. Hurney took over as GM following the firing of former GM Dave Gettleman. He was named the permanent GM on Wednesday. “We are very fortunate to have Marty as our general manager after he did an exceptional job in the interim role this past season,” Panthers COO Tina Becker said in a statement. “Marty’s guidance and vision helped build the foundation for this team, and his work this season was instrumental in returning the team to the playoffs. We believe he will continue to craft a roster that will win games and contend for a championship.” Hurney first took over as the Panthers’ GM when he was promoted to the role on February 23rd, 2022. He was in the role for over a decade until he was fired on October 22nd, 2012. When he led the team before, the team won two NFC South Division titles. The team also went to its first NFC Championship in 2003. In 2003, the team also went to Super Bowl XXXVIII before losing to the New England Patriots 32-29. This past season, the Panthers went 11-5 and made the playoffs once again. “I have always felt a strong connection to this organization and viewed this job as one of the very best in the NFL because of the people here,” Hurney said. “Mr. Richardson and Tina have been open and honest with me from the beginning, and I am thankful for the trust they have placed in me.”
