The Boston Bruins re-signed defenseman Zdeno Chára on Saturday morning. He signed a one-year, $2 million deal.
He could potentially earn another $1.75 million in performance-based incentives.
The 42-year-old Trencin, Czechoslovakia native — who just turned 42 this month — takes a pay cut in this new deal. He is presently making $5 million this season.

He has spent the last 13 seasons with the Bruins. When he suits up for the team during the 2019-20 season, it’ll be his 14th season with the team.
Chára has appeared in 55 games this season. He has four goals and seven assists for 11 points. He also has 16 +/- and 53 PIM.
In his last game in a win against the New Jersey Devils on March 21st, he had a 2+/-. He also had 20 shifts and had 19 minutes and 56 seconds of total ice time.
He is a six-time All-Star, who also won the James Norris Memorial Trophy during the 2008-09 season. He also the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2010-11.
He was a third-round draft pick by the New York Islanders in the 1996 NHL Draft. Besides playing for the Islanders and the Bruins, he also spent four seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

Chára is one of two 42-year-olds in the NHL presently. Matt Cullen is a center for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In his NHL career, he has appeared in 948 games. He has 142 career goals with 322 assists and 464 points. He also has 208 +/- and 991 PIM.
