Both Los Angeles Angels players will honor their fallen teammate on Tuesday night at the MLB All-Star game at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Both Mike Trout and Tommy La Stella will wear No. 45.
The jersey was previously wore by pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who passed away recently. No official cause of death has been announced.
However, Southlake Police Department has said it was not a suicide. Skaggs was found unresponsive in his hotel room on July 1st before the Angels took on the Texas Rangers.
As a result of his death, the Angels and Rangers postponed the July 1st game. The two teams had a moment of silence for Skaggs in their July 2nd game.
According to the medical examiner overseeing Skaggs death, it could take potentially until October before an announcement is made on what caused his death. They presented an Oct. 2nd date to have the full examination completed.
Skaggs was 27-years-old when he died earlier this month. He spent the 2014 season and 2016-2019 seasons with the Angels.
He began his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Skaggs played the 2012 and 2013 season with the Diamondbacks before being traded to the Angels on December 10th, 2013.
Skaggs was initially traded by the Angels to the Diamondbacks in a package that included Joe Saunders, Rafael Rodriguez, and Patrick Corbin for Dan Haren.
This season, Skaggs went 7-7 before his death in 15 starts with a 4.29 ERA. He allowed 41 runs (38 earned runs), including nine home runs, in 79 2/3 innings on 73 hits.
He also had 78 strikeouts and 28 walks.
