Norway Speedway is dealing with a tragic accident. Their flagman has been killed.
According to actionnews5.com, flag man Gene Maas was hit by a race car during Friday night’s action. The incident happened around 9:15 pm local time.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said that Maas died shortly after the accident. He passed away at the speedway.
He was 65. Dickinson County Racing Association President John Ostermann said on the Norway Speedway that Maas worked for the track for 34-years.
The incident happened near the entrance to the pit area, according to the report. At this time, the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The driver of the race car has not been charged with any crime at this time.
“We will race this Friday night in Greg’s honor. And yes, I can assure you that’s what Greg would want. Rest in peace my friend,” Ostermann wrote.
