The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres are battling in Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series. Unfortunately, for both teams, the game is not over.

Yet, both teams have lost a starting pitcher for the entire postseason. First, the Padres announced on Friday that Joe Musgrove will be shut down.

Musgrove will undergo Tommy John surgery soon. When he does, he will likely miss the entire 2025 season before returning in 2026.

Now, the Dodgers have shut down pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The future Hall of Famer is dealing with a toe injury, the team said, and it has not healed right, according to manager Dave Roberts.

The 36-year-old, the 7th overall pick in the 2006 MLB Draft, last pitched for the Dodgers on August 30th, according to Baseball Reference. He went one inning and allowed three runs in a 10-9 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

This season, Kershaw made just seven starts. He went 2-2 on the season. The Dodgers legend pitched 30 innings and allowed 15 earned runs (19 runs).

In his seven starts, Kershaw did not go longer than six innings. He went six innings in a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on August 18th.

He went a combined six innings in his last two starts on August 24th and August 30th. He received a no-decision in a 9-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on August 24th.
