Karl-Anthony Towns has been drafted with the first overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves at the NBA Draft from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Towns is another building block for the Wolves to build around with last year’s top pick Andrew Wiggins.
Towns beat out Jahlil Okafor for the top selection, as the Wolves were also interested in him. However, when they look at all the factors, Towns was the overwhelming favorite.
“If I’m picked by the Minnesota Timberwolves it would be an honor and a privilege,” said Towns at the annual NBA Draft Media Day.

Towns was able to get drafted about 45 minutes from where he grew up in New Jersey. He’s the first top selection out of New Jersey since Kyrie Irving when the Cleveland Cavaliers took him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
The 19-year-old could become the Wolves next great power forward if that’s his chosen position. Kevin Garnett, who is 39-years-old, is under contract for this season.
Many; however, have Towns projected to be the team’s center.
“The craziest thing about those two power forwards, I think you can see some resemblance of me in both of them,” Towns stated at Media Day. “They’ve shown how effective they were in Minnesota. I’m trying to make my own stamp.”
Towns competed for one-season with the Kentucky Wildcats. He averaged 10.3 points per game in 39 starts.

In addition, he averaged 6.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 2.3 blocks in 21.1 minutes per game.
With Towns now in the mix, the Wolves will continue to try to find a trade partner for former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett. Bennett has struggled since coming into the NBA following being the 2013 NBA Draft No. 1 overall pick with the Cavaliers and in Minnesota.
