According to ESPN, Oregon Ducks defensive back Daylen Austin has been arrested. The Eugene (Oregon) Police Department say he is responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident.
The incident happened on Monday night at 9:10 pm local time. The 46-year-old man was hit approximately two miles from campus.
At press time, there is no other information available at this time. Austin is currently in jail.
If convicted, he is facing up to five years in prison.
“This is a complex investigation and EPD is still gathering information to be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision,” the spokesperson said.
The 19-year-old did not participate in the Ducks’ spring practice on Tuesday, according The Oregonian.
“We are aware of the incident and are awaiting additional information,” an Oregon athletics spokesperson told The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Austin played high school football at Long Beach Poly in Long Beach, California. He committed to the Ducks on December 21st, 2022.
