Legendary drag racer John Force is out of the hospital. He will now be moved to an outpatient treatment near his California home.
Force has been in a hospital for the past month. He had a catastrophic engine failure during the PlayNHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in North Dinwiddie, Virginia.
The explosion caused the 75-year-old to lose control of his Funny Car and hit both guard rails.

Following his crash, he was in a Virginia hospital. He was then moved to Barrow Neurological Institute.
At Barrow, he was being treated for his Traumatic Brain Injury. Now, the team said he will receive treatment near his California home in Yorba Linda, California.
“He finally gets to sleep in his own bed,” said daughter Ashley Hood who, with sisters Brittany, Courtney and Adria and mother, Laurie, maintained a constant presence through the Hall of Fame driver and car owner’s hospitalizations in Virginia and Arizona.

Now, he will work with his outpatient team to work on his speech. He will also work with an OTPT (Occupational and Physical Therapy), which will work on his short term memory and cognitive issues, according to the team.
It is not clear at press time how long John will be in the outpatient care in California. The team has not stated any possible return for the legendary driver.
Following the upcoming Sonoma race, John Force Racing is expected to name a replacement driver. The team is slated to compete at the 47th annual Cornwell Tools Night Under Fire in Norwalk, Ohio.
We have been told the PEAK Funny Car may return to NHRA action at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota.
