Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty is attempting to do something that Bo one had done at the Boise, Idaho-based school. No Boise State player has won the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

Yet, he could change all that on Saturday night in New York City. He was announced as a finalist by former Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ward on during Monday Night Countdown at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Ward also announced that Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel, and Miami (Florida) Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward also received an invitation to the Big Apple.

Jeanty is in the mix to be the winner with Hunter, according to many pundits. And betting sources.

If may be a close race between Hunter and Jeanty. One year ago, it was a close race between then-LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels and then-Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

Daniels won the award with 2,029 total points. Penix Jr. was second with 1,701 total points.

Jeanty — who could surpass Barry Sanders’ historic college rushing record — has had 344 carries for 2,497 yards. He also had 29 touchdowns.

He has also had 20 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown.

Sanders had 2,628 rushing yards with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The record has stood for the last 36 years.

Jeanty is just 131 rushing yards away from Sanders rushing record. He has been a huge factor in Spencer Danielsson’s offense.

The Broncos will have at least one game left. They will play an upcoming College Football Playoff game later this month.
