San Antonio Spurs’ young phenom Victor Wembanyama has been shut down for the rest of the season. The news comes as the Spurs were ready to begin the second part of their season.

Wemby, as he is commonly known, is dealing with a deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder. The condition was found, according to the team, as he was preparing to return to the lineup.

He reportedly had ‘low energy’ recently. This concerned the Spurs. He went on a short vacation but that did not help matters.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the thrombosis was found after he underwent tests. While he is missing time now, the Spurs believe that he will be able to return to full strength next season after the blood clot in his shoulder was found.

“The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Victor Wembanyama has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder,” the team said in a statement. “The condition was discovered when Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco. Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The team will provide updates as possible.”

The Spurs will now have to rely on Chris Paul and newly acquired De’Aaron Fox for their second-half push. The team begins the second part of their schedule with a 23-29 record.

The team will host the Phoenix Suns on TNT on Thursday night. The Suns bring a 26-28 record into their game at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
