Union escapes draw with Baribo stoppage time header for win over LA Galaxy

Chester, Pa. – The Philadelphia Union escaped in stoppage time to get three points. The Union defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 Wednesday night from Subaru Park.
 
The Union got three points days after they fumbled away three points in a matchup of top teams in the Eastern Conference. On Saturday, the Union held a 2-1 advantage before giving up the lead in stoppage time to get one point in a 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew.

With the win, the Union is undefeated in their last five games, with four wins and one draw.

At press time, the Union has the second-most points in the Eastern Conference. Despite the draw with the Crew, the Union have 26 points through 13 games.
 
The Union is 8-2-3 on the season. They are only two points behind FC Cincinnati, who is 9-1-3 and has 28 points overall.
 
The Crew played to a 1-1 draw with CF Montréal. The Crew are undefeated in their last four games, including back-to-back draws. Yet, they have a 7-5-1 overall record.
 
The Galaxy – who won the championship in 2024 – are winless on the season. They are 0-3-10 on the season. They have just three points.
 
They were outscored 10-2 in their two-game New York and Philadelphia trip. They were defeated 7-0 by the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night in Harrison, New Jersey.  
 
According to the game stats, the Union had 22 shots in the game. However, just nine were on target.
 
The Galaxy had three shots on goal. Two of their three shots were on target.
 
The Union held possession for 57% of the time. The Galaxy had possession for 43% of the contest.
 
There were three yellow cards in the contest. The Union received one yellow card, while the Galaxy had two yellow cards.
 
The Galaxy received both of their yellow cards in the 90th minute. John Nelson and Christian Ramirez received the yellow cards.
 
In the sixth minute, Nathan Harriel received a yellow card.
 
Plus, in the second half, with about half the time over, there was a stoppage, where the main official removed himself from the game for unknown reasons. The fourth official came off the bench to finish the game.
 
In the 90th + 6 minutes in stoppage time, Tai Baribo scored the game-winning goal. He scored off a header into the back of the net.
 
Baribo also scored a brace when he also scored in the 50th minute. Harriel scored in the 48th minute.

In the first half, the Galaxy led 2-0. Mauricio Cuevas scored in the 31st minute.
 
Diego Fagúndez scored their second goal in the 37th minute.
