Charlotte FC own goal by Kahlina gives Union the win

Chester, Pa. — A win is a win no matter how you slice it. The Philadelphia Union used an own goal by the visitors to get the win on Wednesday night.

The Union defeated the Charlotte FC 1-0 at Subaru Park.

With the win, the Union is in third place in the Eastern Conference. They now have 27 points on the season.

The Union is now 9-3-4 on the season.

Philadelphia, the 2022 Eastern Conference Champions, has not been defeated since Saturday, April 8th when they were defeated 1-0 against FC Cincinnati.

The Union leads the all-time series with Charlotte FC. This was their second win in the three-game series.

Philadelphia also won 2-0 on April 2nd, 2022. Charlotte FC won 4-0 on October 1st, 2022.

Charlotte FC fell to 6-3-8 on the season.

Dániel Gazdag was initially announced as the goal scorer with a goal in the 70th minute. However, after a review of the goal on the Apple TV broadcast, Gazdag headed the ball toward the net.

Charlotte FC goaltender Kristijan Kahlina dove to protect the net. The ball deflected off of the pole, then hit his knee and bounced into the goal.

Therefore, the Charlotte keeper was ruled to have hit the goal in the net and it was switched to an own goal. The Union still received the three points for the win.
