Dodgers win World Series in Game 5 over Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers outspent every other team last off-season. They hoped that by adding numerous key players that it would lead to the World Series Championship. 

On Wednesday night, the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

With the win, the Dodgers clinched the series with a 4-1 win. The Dodgers spent over $1 billion dollars on free-agent signings.

The Dodgers — who have been around since 1883 — won their eighth World Series. This was their second World Series in the last five seasons, as they also won in 2020. 

However, in 2020, the team was not able to have a parade. This time, around though, the Dodgers will be able to have a parade in Los Angeles, California. 

The team also won the World Series in 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, and 1988. 

According to OptaStats, the Dodgers are the first team in Major League Baseball postseason history, who fell behind by five runs in a game, and then erase that deficit. 

Then, fell behind again in the same game. And went on to win the game. 

The Yankees were the first team ever since 1913 to have a crazy stat line in the same game. They blew a five-run lead, then allowed five unearned runs. 

They also committed three-plus errors and then committed a catcher’s interference on a play. They also committed a balk. 

In the top of the eighth inning, the Dodgers erased a one-run deficit to take the lead. Mookie Betts hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-6 when Tommy Edman scored. 

Gavin Lux also hit a sacrifice fly that scored Kiké Hernández to tie the game at 6 apiece. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a sacrifice fly. This allowed Juan Soto to score to make it 6-5. 

The Dodgers had a five-run fifth inning. Teoscar Hernández doubled to deep center field. This allowed Freddie Freeman and Betts to score to make it 5-5. 

Freeman singled to center field during his at-bat. This make it 5-3 when Will Smith and Edman scored. 

Betts began the inning with a single to shallow right center. K. Hernández scored to make it 5-1. 

In the bottom of the third inning, Stanton hit a home run to deep right center. The 402-foot shot made it 5-0. 

One inning earlier in the bottom of the second inning, Alex Verdugo singled to right center. Anthny Volpe made it 4-0. 

The Yankees led 3-0 after the first inning. Aaron Judge hit a two-run shot to deep right center. The 421-foot home run also scored Soto. 

Jazz Chisholm Jr. also hit a home run to deep right center. Chisholm Jr.’s solo home run made it 3-0.

Dodgers closer Blake Treinen received the win. He went 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, one walk, and one hit. 

Starting pitcher Walker Buehler received the save. He went one inning to close out the game and struck out two batters. 

Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle received the loss. As the second pitcher out of the bullpen, he allowed two runs on two hits as he did not get an out before being replaced by Luke Weaver.
