According to FanGraphs.com, d’Arnaud will backup starting catcher Logan O’Hoppe.

O’Hoppe, like d’Arnaud, previously came to the Angels from a National League East team. O’Hoppe came to the Angels from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Three of the four current Angels bench players have ties to the Phillies organization. d’Arnaud was traded by the Phillies, along with others, to the Toronto Blue Jays in December 2009 for Roy Halladay.

Scott Kingery was acquired by the Angels in a trade with the Phillies earlier this month. Mickey Moniak was acquired in a separate August 2022 trade by the Angels from the Phillies.

Moniak was acquired by the Angels for Noah Noah Syndergaard. O’Hoppe was acquired in a deal for Brandon Marsh.

The Angels are d’Arnaud’s fifth MLB team. He previously played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Braves.

He spent the last five seasons with the Braves.

The 35-year-old d’Arnaud had a .248 batting average with 15 home runs in 2024. He also had 48 RBIs..

The 15 home runs were the most since he had 18 home runs during the 2022 season.

d’Arnaud is a one-time All-Star, who was part of the Braves’ 2021 World Series team. He also was a previous Silver Slugger winner.
