Tony Stewart has admitted that he struggled in his first campaign in the ultra-competitive Top Fuel Dragster class this season. On Monday, the NHRA announced that he was voted top rookie.
Stewart — the NASCAR Hall of Famer — was named the Rookie of the Year on Monday during the NHRA awards ceremony at the Pechanga Resort Casino. This came one day after he became a dad with his wife Leah (Pruett) Stewart giving birth to Dominic James Stewart.
A panel of media members decided that he was the best in the class. The Rookie of the Year class included Brandon Foster, Richard Gadson, Derrick Reese, Jasmine Salinas, Sienna Wildgust, Daniel Wilkerson, and Ida Zetterstrom.

“It’s a big honor to win this award this season,” Stewart said. “There are some great drivers in the NHRA and it’s one of the most diverse forms of motorsports I’ve been a part of. I’ve had a really good time working with the series this season to promote and continue to grow the sport.”
Stewart took over the reins of his Tony Stewart Racing Nitro Top Fuel Dragster as his wife Leah stepped away as the couple planned to have a child. The team will announce in the weeks ahead that Stewart will remain in the ride for the 2025 season or if the new mother will return to the ride.
He went to the semifinals on Sunday in the final race of the season at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip in Pomona, California.

He did make it to one final round this season. During the Sonoma race, he lost to Antron Brown. The four-time World Champion went 3.746 to 3.774.
