JuJu Watkins has massive game in USC Trojans upset over No. 1 UCLA Bruins

The No. 6 USC Trojans women’s basketball team upset the top-ranked UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team on Thursday night. The Trojans won 71-60 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Trojans improved to 22-2 with the win, while the Bruins fell to 23-1 with the loss.

This was the first of two meetings between the teams this season. The teams also play on March 1st, on FOX at 9 pm EST in Westwood, California.

USC used a big fourth quarter to win. The Trojans outscored the Bruins 24-8 in the final quarter of the game.

According to ESPN’s SportsCenter, Trojans star JuJu Watkins is the first player in the last 20 seasons at the Division I level to achieve this feat.

She is the first player in this time to have 35 points, five assists, and five blocks in a game. Watkins finished with 38 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and eight blocks in the game.

According to OptaStats, Watskins is the only NBA, WNBA, or Division I men’s or women’s basketball player this century to have the stat line that she had on Thursday. This included 35+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, 5+ blocks, and 5+ threes made. She also achieved this feat against the top-ranked team in the country. 

Watkins also surpassed 1,500 points scored in her two years on a college campus.

The Trojans had just nine bench points. Avery Howell led the bench with five points.

While Watkins led the Trojans in every key statistic, Lauren Betts led her team in scoring and rebounds. She had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Kiki Rice led the Bruins with six assists.

Janiah Barker led the Bruins bench with 10 points. The team had 13 bench points.
