“Our play so far this season, especially coming off the last two seasons, has been unacceptable,” Rockies Owner, Chairman, and CEO Dick Monfort said in a statement. “Our fans deserve better, and we are capable of better. While we all share responsibility in how this season has played out, these changes are necessary. We will use the remainder of 2025 to improve where we can on the field and to evaluate all areas of our operation so we can properly turn the page into the next chapter of Rockies Baseball.

“I want to thank Bud Black and Mike Redmond for their contributions to the organization across their eight years here. I appreciate their hard work and dedication and wish them nothing but the best going forward.”

Redmond was the Rockies bench coach before being fired. Third Base coach Warren Schaeffer has been named interim manager for the rest of the season.

Clint Hurdle — former Rockies manager — has been named interim bench coach. Hurdle was hired in April as the Rockies hitting coach after former hitting coach Hensley Meulens was fired.

Hurdle was the Rockies manager from 2002 through 2009. In 1,159 games, he led the Rockies to a 534-625 record.

In 2007, he guided the Rockies to their lone playoff appearance during his tenure. They advanced to the World Series before being defeated by the Boston Red Sox.

He also has managerial experience with the Pittsburgh Pirates, on which Schaeffer can lean on. He led the Pirates from 2011 through 2019.

With the Pirates, he went 735-720 as their manager in the regular season. Hurdle led the Pirates to the postseason in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Schaeffer is getting his first MLB managerial experience. The 40-year-old had been on the Rockies coaching staff since 2013.

He was previously a manager in the minor leagues. He led the Asheville Tourists for three seasons in 2015, 2016, and 2017. He also managed the Hartford Yard Goats in 2018 and 2019.

The young manager also managed the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2021 and 2022.
