According to NASCAR, Allison had passed away on Saturday at home.

NASCAR recently credited Allison with his 85th win. A win in the 1970s came into the spotlight as the sanctioning body moved the Clash to Bowman Gray Stadium in North Carolina.

Allison was the 1983 Winston Cup Champion. He was also known as a member of the “Alabama Gang” with his brothers Davey Allison, Donnie Allison, and Charles “Red” Farmer.

“It’s always sad when you lose your heroes but this loss is especially hard for me,” former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty said on Instagram. “Bobby Allison was not only one of my dad’s fiercest competitors but also one of my favorite drivers growing up. I played with his kids in infields across the country and raced against Bobby and Davey. I loved Bobby and Judy like they were family.

“My heartfelt prayers go out to the entire Allison family. This is a loss we all feel and we all hurt for this special family.”

He is one of NASCAR’s 75 greatest drivers in 2023. Allison was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011.

He was a three-time winner of the Daytona 500, and a seven-time winner of the sport’s Most Popular Driver.

In 1998, he was named one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers. In 1992, Allison was inducted onto the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.

In 1993, Allison was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.

“Bobby Allison was known universally as a tenacious competitor, a true ‘racers’ racer’…,” NASCAR Hall said in a caption in a post on Instagram. “@nascar and the #NASCAR industry have lost one of our toughest and most versatile competitors and one of our staunchest and most active ambassadors of all time.” Read the full statement from #NASCARHall of Fame Executive Director Winston Kelley on Bobby Allison’s passing at the link in our bio. #NASCARHall #ForeverLegends”
