“We are investigating an apparent small plane crash near the dragstrip in Pomona while it was apparently attempting to land at nearby Brackett Field Airport on Sunday,” NHRA’s Josh Hachat said in a statement to The Capital Sports Report.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

Due to the plane crash, racing has been halted as the attention was turned to those impacted by the plane crash. We do not know yet if the pilot or pilots were having an issue with the aircraft before the crash.

”AIRCRAFT EMERGENCY | 2700 Fairplex Dr. | #Pomona | At 11:10 AM #LACoFD units responded to a single-engine plane down. 3 passengers (were) transported to local area hospitals with moderate to severe injuries.,” L.A. County Fire Department said in a post on X.

The NHRA officials will try to get as much racing in today as possible. If needed, they will move some of the racing to Monday due to this lengthy delay.

With the bulk of the racing for the day still to come, it may cause some teams to race on Monday.

A short time before the crash, racing legend Tony Stewart flew into the same airport after his wife Leah (Pruett) Stewart gave birth to the couple’s first child.
