The New York Jets have found their next quarterback. On Thursday, the Jets signed free agent quarterback Justin Fields to a two year contract.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed by the team.

Fields replaces Aaron Rodgers, who had been the Jets quarterback for parts of the last two seasons. Rodgers was released by the Jets before free agency started.

Rodgers played in one game with the Jets during the 2023 season. He then started the bulk of their games during the 2024 season.

Fields started some games with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. He was then benched in favor of Russell Wilson, who then completed the season.

The signal-caller is coming to a Jets team that went 5-12 in 2024. Aaron Rodgers was their starting quarterback in 2024, before the team and Rodgers decided to part ways after the season.

The 26-year-old quarterback — who just celebrated his birthday on March 5th — was a first-round draft pick (11th overall) by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Last season, he went 4-2 with the Steelers in six games. He played in 10 games overall with the team.

Fields went 106 of 161 for 1,106 yards. He had five touchdown passes and one interception.

Fields last threw a pass last season in a 24-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns on November 21st, 2024, when he went 0 of 1.

His last start with the Steelers came in Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders in a 32-13 win on October 13th, 2024. He went 14 of 24 for 145 yards.

In his career, he has made 50 appearances. He had 44 starts. Fields was 14-30 in those games with the Bears and the Steelers.

His best season as a starter was 5-8 during the 2023 season, his final season, with the Bears.

He has gone 684 of 1,119 for 7.780 yards. Fields had 45 touchdown passes and 31 interceptions.
