The Memphis Tigers defeated the No. 2 UCONN Huskies on Monday afternoon. The Tigers won 99-97 over the Huskies at the Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawai’i.
The Tigers improved to 5-0 on the season. The Huskies suffered its first loss, as they dropped to 4-1 overall.
The Tigers outscored the Huskies 17-15 in overtime. However, it was a late questionable call on Liam McNeeley that really hurt the Huskies for the rest of the game.

McNeeley was called for an over-the-back. This caused Huskies head coach Dan Hurley to get angry over the play.
Hurley received a technical foul for his actions. PJ Carter went to the line, as he had four free throws ahead of him.
Carter would knock down all four free throws that put the Tigers up 96-92. Hassan Diarra cut the lead to two points at 96-94 with 31 seconds left. However, seconds later, Carter would knock down two more free throws as the Tigers went back up four points at 98-94 with 13 seconds left.
The Tigers would then go on to seal the win from there.
Tyrese Hunter led the Tigers with 26 points. He also had one rebound, two assists, and one steal.
He was one of three starters, who scored in double figures. P.J. Haggerty had 22 points. Colby Rogers added 19.
Dain Dainja also contributed more than 10 points. He had 14 points.
Memphis had 23 bench points. Dainja had 14 bench points. He also had five rebounds and one assist.
Tarris Reed Jr. led the Huskies with 22 points. He also had 11 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.

He was one of six players for UCONN, who had double digits. Alex Karaban contributed 19 points. Jaylin Stewart added 16 and Diarra contributed 12.
Starters McNeeley and Solo Ball — who hit the game-tying shot to send the game into overtime — had 10 points each.
The Huskies had 50 bench points. Reed Jr. led the bench with the aforementioned 22 points.
